Well, my friends, the end of 2012 is near and it’s been a terrific December to close things out. This month has been more about connecting and reconnecting with friends and suppliers, something that I’m grateful I get to do given how busy the rest of the year gets.
I wrapped up a Christmas party (no pun intended) with 200 people at the beginning of the month at Centre Mont-Royal (CMR) where the staff was awesome. I’ve got to give a shout-out to Luis and Natalie M., on the sales team, then Natalie and Christopher in banquets – they were all AWESOME. At the end of the evening I was talked into getting a gorgeous henna tattoo from Luma herself at www.lumanessence.com .
During the second week of December, one of my regular customers called me up and asked me if I could put together a 5@7 – within four days… the place was chosen and voila, it got DONE. We had it at this terrific place called Cafe Daylight Factory Restaurant Bar in the Old Port, and it’s a fantastic new sexy, trendy space with awesome staff (thanks Alex and Marc!).
The rest of the month has been spent meeting up with vendor friends I haven’t spoken to in awhile with breakfast, lunch, supper, and coffee dates. The last two weeks before the holiday shut down, I’ve been invited to several industry Christmas get together parties… sitting on several boards, as much as we work hard to get things done during the year, we, too, have our own holiday gatherings. For instance, I’m spending a spa day at Bota Bota with the ladies of the Association of Montreal Professional Wedding Designers, ending it at the fabulous Bevo Restaurant, a pizzeria in Old Montreal. With another board I sit on, the CIBPA, we had chef Franca Mazza from www.francamazza.com who cooks right in front of us and then gives us the privilege of eating her creations. Last but not least I went to The Hangar to enjoy a quiet dinner with girlfriends (Diane and Adriana), whom I haven’t seen in a months due to our crazy schedules.
I’d like to give another shout-out to Marie-Josée Talarico, who gave me the privilege of bringing my sales class to visit her work at JPDL. She shared her valuable knowledge on sales tactics, and with this another session at College Lasalle has come to an end. I corrected all final exams (68 case studies), then “closed” it all with a themed holiday Lasalle College staff party.
Some interesting personal things went on in December. As of late (within the industry) I’ve been getting several job offers in Public Relations and/or Marketing (things that make me go hmmm) – this is quite flattering and much appreciated, but the truth is, I’m not ready to let go of my “baby” Montreal Event Planner as of yet.
I also attended a historic unveiling at the Casa D’Italia for a special sculpture created by artist Egidio Vincelli to commemorate the internment of Italian Canadians – although not much of a history buff, I will admit this was very emotional for me. Here are some news clippings to explain further:
A few final notes before I sign off for ’12…
As I reflect on the year, I want to take a moment thank everyone and I MEAN EVERYONE for your love, support, friendship, and trust – without you I am nothing. Your support throughout the years have been priceless to me personally and professionally! I am well aware that one does not work alone, everything done is one LARGE collaboration so KUDOS to all of you! You know who you are and I want you to know that words cannot describe how grateful I am. You are the ones that make me look good. On that note I’d like to wish all my friends, associates, and faithful readers the happiest of Holidays and a bright New Year. Can’t wait to see you in 2013!
